Geo-thermal Valley
It is also called ‘’Hell Valley’’, a sunken place formed after the eruption of volcano.
The hot spring gushes out from this place is with strong smell. It is named as green
sulfur spring. This kind of hot spring is available only in 3 places in the world; Beitou, Japan and Chile. The valley is hovered with misty steam all year round. In the old days, it was considered as a dwelling place of witch.
The water temperature is about 90 degree Celsius. PH value is between 1.2 and 1.6. Namely, it is a strong acid hot spring. When bathing, soap is not applicable. The hot spring contains radium element which is radioactive. It is said it has been used for therapeutic purpose.
Measurement of the valley is about 3,500 square meters. Output volume of water is about 2,000 cubic feet per day. It is the upstream of green sulfur hot spring for hotel and community in Beitou area.
The precious stone ‘’Hokutolite’’ is a natural masterpiece from the interaction of sedimentation and crystallization of green sulfur on riverbed or rocks in the Beitou creek.
